Alexandra Airport Carousel Backyard Ultra
The Alexandra Airport Carousel Backyard Ultra is a last-person-standing endurance event held in Alexandra, Central Otago. The format requires runners to complete a loop of 6.71 km with about 50 m of vertical gain every hour; each lap must be finished and the runner returned to the corral before the next bell. Failure to start or finish a lap within the hour results in a DNF.
The course is a single, simple loop comprising hardpacked mountain bike single track, 4WD tracks, and sections through pine forest. Laps circle the Alexandra Airport with mountain views. The event is self-supported on course; participants must provide their own shelter, seating, food and water at base camp. On-site tent hire and set up is available through an event partner for attendees who prefer not to bring gear.
Base facilities include mobile reception at the event base and on the course. Alexandra township lies under a five minute drive for restocking supplies and has accommodation options. Travel note: Alexandra is about one hour's drive from Queenstown airport.
Entry pricing is tiered with early, standard and late bands listed. Priority tent bays are offered to the first paid entries, with general admission tenting positioned behind them. A portion of entry fees supports two charities focused on youth mental health and bowel cancer support.
Refunds for withdrawals follow a fixed schedule based on the date of request. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
