Lake District Duathlons - Grasmere
The Lake District Duathlons take place in the village of Grasmere, with the event hub located at The Showfield on Stock Lane. The course utilizes the local landscape, featuring run segments on paths and trails around Grasmere Village and Grasmere Water, while the cycling stages follow open roads through the surrounding fells and mountains.
The event offers two main distances for participants:
- Sprint (Short) Duathlon: a 5 km run followed by a 20 km cycle and a final 2.5 km run.
- Standard Duathlon: a 10 km run (two laps of the 5 km course), a 40 km cycle, and a final 5 km run.
The cycling route for the Sprint distance heads toward Elterwater, while the Standard distance extends further toward Hawkshead and Coniston. There is also a relay option available for the Standard distance.
A secure transition area is provided at The Showfield, where race and bike numbers are used to assign specific racking spots. Competitors are required to have bike numbers attached and helmets visible before entry. The event features live chip timing provided by Timing Up North. At the finish line, participants receive a medal, a drink, a snack, and merchandise. Limited on-site parking is available for a fee, with additional public parking located nearby.
