Water temperature rules apply for wetsuit use: below 78°F wetsuits ok; 78–83.9°F wetsuits permitted but may affect award eligibility; 84°F and above wetsuits are discouraged. The bike course runs through the rolling ground moraine northwest of Oconomowoc with course splits at about mile 7 and mile 15 and a reconnection near Branch Rd. Half Iron cyclists pass aid stations near miles 17 and 41 that provide water, Gatorade, and a bathroom; there is no aid station on the Olympic or Sprint bike courses. The run is an out-and-back along Wisconsin Avenue and the southern shore of Lac la Belle; Sprint turn is at mile 1.55, Olympic at mile 3.1, and Half Iron runners complete two out-and-backs. Transition is staged and secured overnight the night before; athletes must be body marked and display their bib to enter transition.
