Kusam Klimb

The Kusam Klimb takes place in Sayward, British Columbia, on the traditional territory of the Kwakwaka’wakw people. Held near the summer solstice, this annual event features a rugged course on Vancouver Island. The main route utilizes Bill’s Trail, heading over the back of Mt. H’Kusam and descending through the Stowe Creek watershed.

The event offers two distinct distances over wild and mountain terrain:

  • 24 km: A loop course featuring 1,593 m of elevation gain.
  • 13 km (Mini Klimb): A shorter option with 491 m of elevation gain.

There are four stocked aid stations for the 24 km distance and two for the 13 km route. This is a cupless event; participants must carry their own reusable bottles or cups. Strict cut-off times are enforced at various points along the 24 km course, with a final finish line limit of 12 hours.

Participation is open to entrants aged 14 and older. Those between 14 and 16 years of age must be accompanied by a registered adult for the duration of the event. Hiking poles are permitted for both distances. On-site services include a pancake breakfast and coffee on race morning, followed by a post-race barbecue starting at 11:00 am. Biblical pickup requires a government-issued photo ID. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
