Kanawha State Forest Trail Races
The Kanawha State Forest Half Marathon and 7K take place in Charleston, West Virginia. The courses are set entirely within the Kanawha State Forest, utilizing forest roads and wooded routes. The terrain consists of dense trees and rolling hills characteristic of the local landscape. Part of the Cryptid Race Series, the event incorporates elements of local legend and history into the forest setting.
Participants can choose from the following course distances:
- 13.1 miles (Half Marathon Trail Run)
- 7K Trail Run
- Virtual Race (participant-selected distance)
The physical races are held on forest paths with a designated five-hour time limit for both the half marathon and the 7K distances. All participants who complete their registration by the October 8th deadline are guaranteed a race shirt. For those registering after this date, shirts are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.
The start and finish areas are located near the forest gift shop. For those unable to attend in person, a virtual option allows runners to select their own distance. Virtual participants receive medals and shirts by mail following the conclusion of the event, though no official times are submitted for the virtual category.
