Krayzie Midwinter Backyard Ultra
The Krayzie Midwinter Backyard Ultra is a backyard ultra format race held on 11 July 2026 at Spencer Park, 100 Heyders Rd, Spencerville, Christchurch. Competitors run consecutive laps of 6.706 km; each lap must be completed within one hour and the remaining time is used to recover before the next lap. The race finishes when one person completes one more lap than anyone else.
Key race rules include exact hourly starts for each lap, warning whistles at three, two and one minute before each start, and no late starts. Runners may not leave the course during a lap except for toilet stops; flushing toilets are available in the event village near the start and are about 50 m from the running line. Aid and supplies are only allowed in the event village during the time a runner has remaining after completing a lap and before the next start. The event is self supported so entrants must provide their own food and fluids; organisers will have extra water available. Artificial aids including poles are not permitted. Noise blocking headphones are prohibited and a quiet zone operates between dusk and dawn to allow rest for runners and crews.
Compulsory gear must be kept at each entrant's aid area and includes thermal tops and leggings, a seam sealed jacket, spare socks, thermal beanie and gloves, blankets, towel and extra dry clothes and layers.
Event village details: each entrant receives a 3 m x 4 m space for a gazebo on a first come, first served basis; wheeled campers or aid areas are not permitted on the grass, and sharing a gazebo may be possible. The venue offers a heated lodge with power and hot water, hot showers, flushing toilets, and washing machines and dryers that require payment.
