Event overview
The Sunshine Coast Kokoda Challenge is a team endurance charity event held on Gubbi Gubbi Country. The 2026 event is scheduled for 9 May 2026 and takes place in the Imbil State Forest with the start and finish at Kenilworth State Community College in Kenilworth. The event honours the Kokoda Campaign and raises funds for the Kokoda Youth Foundation's youth programs. Participation is team-based only; solo entries are not permitted.
The course passes through rugged bushland with steep climbs, uneven terrain, rivers, and mountain sections. The event emphasises values inspired by the Kokoda Campaign: courage, endurance, mateship, and sacrifice. Each team must meet a minimum fundraising target before the event.
Distances and entry details
- 18 km: 2 checkpoints, no support crew, minimum age 9 years, nine hours to complete.
- 30 km: 3 checkpoints, no support crew, minimum age 10 years, twelve hours to complete.
- 48 km: 5 checkpoints, 1 support crew checkpoint, support crews strongly recommended, minimum age 13 years, twenty hours to complete.
Registration fees and minimum fundraising amounts vary by team size and distance. Team categories include 2-person, 3-person, 4-person, and school teams (4 students + 1 teacher).
