Kokoda Challenge - Sunshine Coast
The Kokoda Challenge on the Sunshine Coast is a team-based endurance event held on Gubbi Gubbi Country in the Imbil State Forest. The event honours Australian Defence Force members who served on the Kokoda Track in 1942 and raises funds for the Kokoda Youth Foundation and its youth programs. Since 2021, thousands of teams have taken part.
Distances offered:
- 18 km route through Imbil State Forest, 2 checkpoints, no support crew
- 30 km route through Imbil State Forest, 3 checkpoints, no support crew
- 48 km route through Imbil State Forest, 5 checkpoints, one support crew checkpoint
The event is scheduled for 9 May 2026 and starts from Kenilworth, with the start and finish located at Kenilworth State Community College. Entries are team only; solo participation is not permitted. Minimum age requirements vary by distance: 9 years for 18 km, 10 years for 30 km, and 13 years for 48 km. Teams must meet a minimum fundraising target before event day; registration fees and fundraising minimums vary by team size and distance. The course passes through rugged bushland with steep climbs, river crossings, and uneven terrain. Checkpoint numbers differ by distance and a support crew is strongly recommended for the 48 km option. Finishers receive a dog tag at the finish line.
