Location and format
The start area is at Brookfield Recreation Reserve, about 30 minutes west of Brisbane CBD by road. Participants gather in front of a stage for an opening ceremony that includes a talk about the 1942 Kokoda Campaign, the reading of The Ode, a moment of silence and the playing of The Last Post by a bugler.
Course and finish
The route travels through dense forest in D'Aguilar National Park and includes steep inclines and downhills. The event may involve changing weather conditions and lower temperatures after dark. Finishers receive dog tags at the finish line.
Purpose
The event raises funds for the Kokoda Youth Foundation. Funds support experiential youth programs that feature outdoor adventure, mentorship, community service and education about the Kokoda Campaign. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
