The event is a community running challenge held at Felons Brewing Co, Howard Smith Wharves, Brisbane City. Participants are invited to complete 21 km wearing a 10 kg weighted vest and budgy smugglers; the vest is optional and the clothing choice is symbolic. The event is free to enter and open to everyone.
The event offers a range of distance options:
- 21 km in a 10 kg weighted vest and budgy smugglers
- 10 km option
- 5 km option
- 1 km walk
- set your own distance
There is no official timing, no placings, and no prizes; the emphasis is on collective participation rather than competition. The event raises funds and awareness for veteran mental health and supports partner organisations Survive To Thrive Nation and Zero79 Foundation. Donations are collected through a crowdfunding platform associated with the event.
The Brisbane edition runs the same day as other Weight of War Run locations including Cronulla, Karratha and Canberra. Refunds are available up to seven days before the event. The event is organised by Weight of War Limited, a not-for-profit supporting Australian veterans. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
