About the race
The Knysna Forest Marathon is a trail running event held within the Knysna Forest and forms part of the Knysna Oyster Festival. The event offers two official distances:
- 42.2 km full marathon
- 21.1 km half marathon
Entries are available on the official marathon website only and are offered in three phases: charity entries (from 01 December 2026 until sold out), loyalty entries (11 January to 24 January 2027 for 2026 entrants), and general entries (25 January to 23 May 2027 or until sold out). Entry limits are set at 1 250 for the full marathon and 6 750 for the half marathon; charity entries are limited to 150 full and 300 half places. Temporary ASA licences are available for R50 for runners not licensed for the current year.
Registration and number collection take place at Knysna High School Sport Field on the day before the race; race number confirmation and photo ID are required to collect race packs. Race services include mat-to-mat timing, water and refreshments at about 3 km intervals, distance markers every kilometre, a tog bag transport service, and medical support at the finish and at points on the routes. Cut-off times are 3.5 hours for 21.1 km and 6 hours for 42.2 km. Long- and short-sleeve event shirts are available for purchase with entries. Prize money and medals are awarded; all 21 km finishers receive a bronze medal and prize money is listed for multiple categories. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
