Knysna Forest Marathon : event summary
The Knysna Forest Marathon is an annual trail running event held as part of the Knysna Oyster Festival. Most of the route runs deep into the Knysna Forest with views over the estuary and the Knysna Heads. The event offers two measured distances and mat-to-mat timing.
- 42.2 km full marathon
- 21.1 km half marathon
Entries are available only via the official event website. Entry windows for 2026 include charity entries (01 December 2025 until sold out), loyalty entries (12–25 January 2026), and general entries (26 January–24 May 2026 or until sold out). Entry limits are specified at 1 250 for the full marathon and 6 500 for the half marathon; charity entry allocations are limited. Charity entry fees include a portion directed to nominated charities. Runners not licensed by ASA for the current year must purchase a temporary ASA license via the online entry process.
Registration and number collection take place at the Knysna High School Sports Field on the designated registration day; there is no registration on the morning of the race. Water and refreshments are provided approximately every 3 km, and distance markers appear every kilometre. Cut-off times are 3.5 hours for the half and 5.5 hours for the full. Medical support is available on the routes and at the finish. Prize money, medals for half-marathon finishers, and other awards are part of the event.
