About the race
The Knysna Extreme Triathlon is a point-to-point endurance triathlon held on the Garden Route. The race begins with a 5 km swim in the Knysna Estuary, continues with a predominantly coastal cycle leg of about 176 km along the Garden Route coastline, and finishes with a 52 km run over winding mountain gravel roads that end inside the Knysna Forest. Organisers revised the 2026 route because of storm damage and road repairs affecting parts of the original course.
The event limits entries to 100 individual competitors and 10 teams. Entry periods for 2026 include super early bird, early bird, and standard windows, with standard entry fees listed for individuals and teams. A race guide and a detailed athlete manual are provided; the manual contains essential information for athletes and their supporters.
The course combines open-water estuary swimming, long-distance road cycling with ocean views, and off-road running on mountain gravel. The point-to-point format and the mix of terrain require logistical planning for competitors and their support crews. The description provided by organisers emphasises the route change for 2026 and the finishing location deep within the Knysna Forest. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
