Kites and Rainbows Run
The Kites and Rainbows Run is an annual athletic event held on the campus of Mississippi State University and through the city of Starkville. Now in its second year, the event serves as a fundraiser benefiting Friends of Children's Hospital, which supports the only children's hospital in Mississippi. The race courses start and finish at The Junction on the university campus, utilizing routes that pass through campus grounds and iconic local areas.
Participants can choose from several different event formats:
- 10K Run
- 5K Run and Walk
- Aquathlon (comprising a 5K run and an 800-meter swim at the Sanderson Center)
- Kids Fun Run
The event features chip timing for accuracy. Registered participants receive race t-shirts and finisher medals upon completion. Awards are presented to both overall winners and winners within specific age groups. The Aquathlon category is limited to a maximum of 44 participants.
The race weekend coincides with several local community events in Starkville, including the Mississippi State vs. Tennessee baseball series, the International Fiesta, and the King Cotton Crawfish Boil. Fundraising opportunities and volunteer roles are also available as part of the event organization. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
