Trail Running in Eastern Kentucky
The Kiss the Goat event takes place in Hazard, Kentucky, at the Horse Ring of Perry County Park. This trail running event features technical sections through fully wooded areas. The courses are characterized by elevation changes, including climbing sections and fast descents. Participants can choose between two main distances:
- Half Marathon: Two 6.56 mile loops (one in each direction) with approximately 2500 feet of climbing.
- 10K Trail Run: A single loop with a shortcut at the meadow, featuring roughly 1250 feet of climbing.
The event is recommended for experienced trail runners and hikers. Hikers are encouraged to participate in the 10K distance. Both courses involve significant climbing and technical terrain, making trail shoes a recommended choice for all participants.
While dogs are permitted at the park facility, they are not allowed on the race course itself. For the Half Marathon, a cutoff time is in place requiring runners to begin their second lap before 10:30 AM.
Finisher awards are provided to all participants, and podium medals are awarded to the top three male and female finishers in both the 10K and Half Marathon. Snacks are available near the start line, and participants are advised to carry their own water. The event also provides a 100% cotton commemorative shirt for participants.
