Age divisions are specified by birth year: U10 (2017 or later), U12 (2015–2016), U14 (2013–2014), U16 (2011–2012) and Open (2010 or earlier). The event page identifies Edmonton Thunder as an inclusive club located on Treaty 6 territory.
The memorial recognises Kinsey Verbeek, who was an Edmonton Thunder athlete from 2016 to 2022. She participated in track, kickboxing, rugby and soccer and enjoyed hurdling, sprinting and cross-country running. Kinsey died at age 15. The Kinsey Verbeek Memorial Award was created to recognise two Grade 11 students in Edmonton Public schools who have had a positive effect on others while facing personal challenges.
