The Killer Mile Challenge
The Killer Mile is an uphill running event held in Mow Cop, Stoke-on-Trent. Participants follow a 1 mile point-to-point route starting from Scholar Green and climbing toward Mow Cop. The course features a total elevation gain of 570 feet and includes steep sections with a maximum gradient of 25%.
The event offers several race categories to accommodate different ages and affiliation statuses:
- 1 mile Junior Race for those aged 5-12 years.
- 1 mile Fun Run for individuals aged 18 years and older.
- 1 mile Elite Race for affiliated and non-affiliated club runners.
All participants are tracked using professional chip timing systems for accurate result recording. Every runner who completes the course receives a finisher's medal. Additional awards and position prizes are presented to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers, and cash prizes are available for those who successfully break the established men's or women's course records.
The race route is supported by marshals and first responders to ensure participant safety. At the finish line and the Community Church Hall, local food stalls and refreshments such as drinks and cakes are available. Road closures are implemented during the event to manage traffic. Participants are required to wear appropriate running attire and footwear and must provide a signed waiver form during the registration process.
