About the race
Kilkenny Medieval Marathon is a multi-distance road race that starts in Abbey Quarter and finishes at The Water Barracks in Kilkenny. The event route passes historic sites in the medieval city, then follows country roads before returning to the city for the finish. All finishers receive a bespoke medal and a technical t-shirt.

Aid stations are provided on course, with the first water stop around 6.3 km and subsequent water stops approximately every 5 km. Walkers may participate; the full marathon has a seven hour cut off. There is a baggage drop area at the finish line only; items left at the finish are not transported along the course and must be collected by their owner. Race numbers are collected from The Water Barracks with collection available on the Friday evening before the event and on the morning of race day up to one hour before each distance. There is no race day registration. Recommended parking areas in Kilkenny include County Hall, Dean Street car park, Market Yard and Ormonde Street multi storey car park; some city parking is paid.
