Event Distances

The Kaslo Wild Ultra is a three-day stage running event held in July. Participants can register for individual stages or one of two multi-day challenges.

  • The Lake Stage (Day 1): A 10 km loop around the village of Kaslo and along the lakeshore, featuring a mix of single-track and wide gravel trails, with about 1.5 km on the road.
  • The Mountain Stage (Day 2): A 53 km ultra-marathon on Mount Buchanan. The course includes rugged mountain terrain with rocky, rooty sections, 2 km of road at the start and finish, 2 km of old logging road, and the rest on single-track trails.
  • The River Stage (Day 3): A 22 km pure single-track journey through lush forest and riverside trails.
  • The Full Wild Challenge: A combined 85 km course over three days, encompassing the Lake, Mountain, and River stages.
  • The Half Wild Challenge: A combined 32 km course over two days, encompassing the Lake and River stages.

Location & Course

All race starts, finishes, and package pick-ups take place at Kaslo Bay Park. The elevation gain is 150 metres for the Lake stage, 2400 metres for the Mountain stage, and 528 metres for the River stage.

Rules & Mandatory Gear

The event is cupless, so runners must carry their own hydration system. For the 53 km Mountain stage, mandatory gear includes a hydration pack or bottles, a rain jacket or emergency blanket, and a phone. A headlamp is recommended for this distance, and bear spray is recommended for the 53 km and 22 km. Headphones are not allowed during the race for safety reasons. Runners must check in at every aid station or risk disqualification. The Mountain stage has 4 aid stations and 2 water stations with drop bags. The River stage has 2 aid stations. There are time limits for each stage and specific checkpoints with cut-off times.
