Kahtoola Uphill Race : Friends of Camp Colton
The Kahtoola Uphill is an annual mountain race presented as a family-friendly event and a fundraiser for Friends of Camp Colton. The event promotes human-powered movement and includes multiple climb courses under distinct names: Cambium Wealth Strategies Fun Climb, Midway Climb, and Lumberyard Brewing Co. Öo’mawki Climb. Course options are described as ranging from fun to more demanding, and teams may be formed with any number of participants.
All race proceeds support Friends of Camp Colton and fund outdoor education for children. The event typically includes a post-race celebration and community comradery. Organizers run two raffle programs: the Peace Outfitters Race Raffle with prizes valued at $25 and up, and a Golden Ticket raffle featuring 24 prizes each valued at $500 or more. The Golden Ticket program limits sales to 240 tickets priced at $100 each and reports an approximate 1 in 10 chance to win; raffle winners do not need to be present to collect prizes.
Volunteers are recruited to help before, during, and after the event. Volunteers receive racer swag and costumes are optional. The event also offers sponsorship opportunities under a Champ for Camp program, with 100 percent of sponsorship funds supporting Friends of Camp Colton programs that expand student access, develop programs, and support Camp Colton’s long-term sustainability.
