Jumbo-Holdsworth Trail Race : Event information
The Jumbo-Holdsworth Trail Race is a mountain endurance event in the Tararua Forest Park, based at Mt Holdsworth. The program offers two main route options along the classic circuit and a shorter bush loop.
Distances
- 24km Jumbo to Holdsworth, anti-clockwise, 1500m elevation
- 24km Holdsworth to Jumbo, clockwise, 1500m elevation
- 12km Hooper Loop, 500m elevation
The 24km courses follow graded tracks, steep climbs above the tree line, exposed ridges and technical descents, with strict cut off times enforced at hut checkpoints. The Hooper Loop stays mainly in the bush with a mid race steep climb and is presented as an alternative for those unlikely to meet the main course cut offs.
Mandatory gear is required for safety and will be checked at registration. Requirements include a map or GPS unit with topomap, warm and waterproof clothing, hat and gloves, a survival blanket or bag, and a personal cup or bottle. Marshals and timing personnel staff junctions and huts; water supply at huts depends on seasonal conditions. Competitors must stay on established tracks, carry out rubbish, and report withdrawals to race control so absences can be accounted for.
