Activities and Purpose
The event includes a 5K run/walk and a "Sleep In 5K" virtual challenge option. All proceeds support scholarships for students in need at Jefferson State Community College (JSCC). The event honors Dr. Judy M. Merritt, the college's former president and the first female president of an Alabama college. Alongside the race, a Family Fun Day offers activities such as a DJ, face painting, free popcorn, and cotton candy.
Awards and Details
Medals are awarded to the top three overall male and female finishers, and to the top male and female runners in several age categories. Participants receive a swag bag that includes a race t-shirt, with the shirt guaranteed for those registered by February 13, 2026. Packet pickup is available on the two days before the race at the Judy M. Merritt Health Science building on the JSCC campus, and on race morning at the Veterans Park Pavilion.
