2026 Judy M. Merritt Memorial 5K & Family Fun Day
The event is scheduled for March 14, 2026, at Hoover's Veterans Park in Birmingham, Alabama. It features an in-person 5K and a Sleep In 5K / Virtual Challenge option, with proceeds directed to scholarships for Jefferson State Community College students in need.
Participants in both the 5K and the virtual challenge receive a swag bag and a race day shirt; the shirt is only guaranteed for registrations completed before February 13. The event includes on-site family activities such as free popcorn, cotton candy, other concessions, a DJ, face painting, and additional community offerings.
Medals will be awarded to the top three male and female overall finishers and to the top male and female in these age categories: 12 and under, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60 plus. Packet pickup is available on the campus of Jefferson State Community College in the lobby of the Judy M. Merritt Health Science building on the Shelby-Hoover campus, with additional pickup at the Veterans Park Pavilion on race day.
The race is presented as a memorial event held in honor of Jefferson State Community College’s former president and supports student scholarships through participant registration and sponsorship levels. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
