Judy M. Merritt Memorial 5K and Family Fun Day
The event is a community 5K run with a parallel virtual "Sleep In 5K" challenge. Proceeds support scholarships for Jefferson State Community College students in need.
Participants receive a swag bag and a race-day shirt; the shirt is only guaranteed for registrations completed by February 12. Registration opened June 30, 2026 and fees vary by registration date. A virtual entry option is available for those who cannot attend in person.
The event includes family-oriented activities at Hoover's Veterans Park in Birmingham, Alabama. On-site offerings listed by the organizer include free popcorn, cotton candy, other concessions, a DJ, and face painting.
Awards are presented to the top overall male and female finishers and to top male and female runners in age categories: 12 and under; 13-19; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60 and over. Packet pickup is scheduled the Thursday and Friday before the event in the lobby of the Judy M. Merritt Health Science building on JSCC's Shelby-Hoover campus, and additional packets are available on race day at the Veterans Park pavilion.
