John Jay Community Trail Race
The event is a community trail meet held in Cross River, New York, on the John Jay school campus and surrounding woods. The courses use the John Jay Middle School (JJMS) field, the wooded John Jay Community Trail, and finish on the John Jay Contest Track & Field next to Route 121.
Three course options are offered:
- 5k trail race on wooded trails
- 4k Jay Walk on the community trail
- 200 m Kids Jay Dash on the contest track
The 5k race begins on the lower fields of the John Jay campus, travels into wooded, hilly trails adjacent to the middle school and high school, and returns to finish on the contest field. The 4k walk follows most of the same main trail but skips about 1 km of the southern hill loop and runs in the opposite direction so walkers and runners share sight lines on the course. The Kids Jay Dash is a 200 meter track race run partly around the track in the shape of a J and is open to students in fifth grade and under; heats may be organized by age.
Registration fees are listed by event in the organizer information: $23 for the 5k and 4k, and $14 for the Kids Jay Dash. Animals are not permitted on the school grounds except for service animals within the ADA definition. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
