About the race
JJ's Journey for a Cause is an annual community running event held in Wendell, North Carolina, in memory of JJ. The event combines in-person and virtual options and raises funds for First Candle to support families affected by infant loss and to fund SIDS research.
Event options include:
- 5K in person
- Kids Fun Run about one mile, for ages 5 to 12, untimed, 20 minute laps, medal for participants
- Virtual 5K complete 3.1 miles and submit the time via the RaceJoy app
Awards are presented by Pace Yourself Run Company and include top three male and female overall finishers plus top male and female finishers in the listed age divisions (1-18, 19-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+).
Packet pick up is available at two pre-race locations in Wendell as well as on race day for those who need it. There is a deadline to register for a guaranteed T-shirt size on May 3, 2027. The event also features a color powder element for the kids run and offers an untimed, family-friendly kids experience separate from the timed 5K.
