48th Annual Jack Gamble Melon Run
The Jack Gamble Melon Run is a long-standing Independence Day tradition held in Gainesville, Florida. Organized by the Florida Track Club, this event takes place at Albert "Ray" Massey Westside Park and features a course characterized by rolling hills. The celebration focuses on community involvement and tradition, concluding with the crowning of a Melon Run King and Queen.
Participants can choose between several event options:
- 3-mile rolling course run
- Free 1/2-mile kids run
The event includes age-group awards presented in 10-year increments. In keeping with the theme of the race, age-group winners receive a watermelon, and post-race refreshments include watermelon for all participants.
Registration options allow participants to select between a race with a tank top or a no-tank option, with specific deadlines for apparel availability and price adjustments. Youth pricing is available for children aged 12 and under. On the day of the event, bib pick-up is located near the finish line by the pool. Registration on race day is strictly online, as no paper forms or in-person payments are accepted at the venue. Parking is available in the large lot on the west side of the park off NW 34th Street.
