IRONMAN Canada-Ottawa takes place in the capital city of Canada, featuring a course that blends urban landmarks with rural scenery. The competition consists of three main segments:
- Swim: A point-to-point course held in the river.
- Bike: A rolling route on closed roads that passes through historic embassy row and the rural outskirts of the city.
- Run: A rolling course through downtown Ottawa.
The event concludes with a finish line positioned in front of the Parliament of Canada. Typical weather conditions for the region in August include average high air temperatures of 29 °C (83 °F) and average water temperatures around 21 °C (70 °F).
