Iron X

Iron X is an extreme ironing event organized by Skybreaker Racing in Auburn, CA. The event combines a trail half marathon with on-course ironing tasks on a portion of the historic Western States Trail. Participants run the half marathon distance while pausing to iron a button-up shirt at a series of specified locations in and around Auburn.

There are eight named ironing locations along the route, including river and downtown sites, a bridge location, and a site on top of vehicle remains. Spectators are allowed at all ironing locations except the Dead Car Iron. The event is described as a fatass group run; there will be no course markings, no medical services provided, no medals, no trekking poles, and no pacers allowed.

Rules require each participant to wear a button-up or snap-up shirt throughout the event, remove and iron it at each location, and then put it back on. Participants must submit post-event proof by providing a public activity link and geo-tagged photos or videos showing the location, the ironist, the iron, and the ironing board at each ironing spot. Failure to complete an iron at a specified location with the required evidence incurs a 10 minute penalty per location.

Each participant must carry their own ironing board and a battery powered iron. Boards must be at least 3 feet 3 inches long and 11 inches wide with full-length legs. The ironing face must measure at least 4 1/2 inches by 9 inches. Aid is permitted only at two specified locations in 2027 and a moving drop bag may be used for those sites.
