Iron X (Half Marathon)
Iron X is a half marathon held in Auburn, CA on July 11, 2026, organized by Skybreaker Racing. It combines running with extreme ironing: participants must carry ironing equipment and perform timed ironing stops at specified locations around Auburn.
Participants must wear a button-up shirt throughout the event, removing it, ironing it, and putting it back on at each listed location. Required ironing locations include Robie Point, the river just south of No Hands Bridge, No Hands Bridge itself, the top of Foresthill Bridge, a vehicle-remains site called the Dead Car Iron, a downtown statue foundation on Lincoln Avenue, the Clock Tower at Lincoln Way and High Street, and the old courthouse parking lot in old town Auburn. Spectators are allowed at all ironing locations except the Dead Car Iron.
This event is an unofficial "fatass." There are no aid stations, no medical services, no medals, no crew support, and no pacers permitted. Participants must be self-supported. Each ironist must record a clear video of themselves ironing at each location; failure to provide required video proof results in a ten minute penalty added per missing location.
Equipment must be carried by the participant throughout the course. Ironing boards must have legs and measure at least 3 feet 3 inches long and 11 inches wide. Battery-powered irons are required and fuel and water must be self-supplied. Rules and exact iron locations are still in the works. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
