Event Overview
The Essentia Health Iron Range Half Marathon takes place in the quad city areas of Northern Minnesota. This multi-day event includes several distance options held on the Mesabi Trail and surrounding areas in Virginia, Eveleth, and Gilbert. All races are chip-timed, and official results are categorized into age divisions ranging from 12-19 up to 70-99.
The weekend features three main distances:
- 13.1 Miles (Half Marathon)
- 3.1 Miles (5K Race)
- Kids Run
Course Details
The half marathon begins with participants meeting at the Iron Trail Motors Event Center in Virginia. Busses transport runners to the Mesabi Trail headquarters in Eveleth, where the race starts at the trailhead. The point-to-point course travels through the North woods, passing through Eveleth and Gilbert before returning to Virginia. A notable feature of the route is the Thomas Rukavina Memorial bridge, which is the highest bridge in Minnesota. The race concludes back at the Iron Trail Motors Event Center.
The 5K event is held on Friday evening. Both the start and finish lines for the 5K are located at the Iron Trail Motors Event Center. Participants who register by July 31st receive a race t-shirt. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
