Inverclyde Leisure Sprint Distance Triathlon
The Inverclyde Leisure Sprint Distance Triathlon is a multisport event featuring triathlon and aquathlon categories for individuals, teams, and juniors. The event is based at the Gourock Outdoor Pool and involves multiple heats scheduled throughout the day. Participants receive their heat and lane positions via email prior to the race.
The event offers several distinct race formats:
- Sprint Distance Triathlon: A 0.5 mile swim (24 lengths), a 10 mile cycle, and a 5 km run.
- Team Triathlon: Three participants per team completing a 0.5 mile swim, 10 mile cycle, and 5 km run.
- Adult Aquathlon: A 0.5 mile swim (24 lengths) followed by a 5 km run.
- Junior Aquathlon: For ages 10 to 17, featuring a 0.25 mile swim (12 lengths) and a 3 km run.
The cycling route for the triathlon follows a path from Gourock Pool to the Bankfoot Roundabout, with a turn point located before the roundabout at the entrance to Ardgowan Estate, returning to the pool. The 5 km run course leads from the pool to McInroy's Point, with a turn point before the ferry terminal exit road. The junior 3 km run turns before the Gourock Yacht Club car park.
Safety regulations require all cyclists to wear helmets during the cycling phase. A 45 minute time cap applies to the swimming portion for all participants; those still in the pool at this limit must transition to the next phase of the race. Entry is available on a first-come, first-served basis with specific capacity limits for each category, including 150 individual triathlon spaces and 24 team spots.
