Into the Woods Trail Run
The Into the Woods Trail Run is a 5K trail race held on the 165-acre wooded property of Camp Martha Johnston in Lizella, Georgia. The course runs entirely on camp trails except for a concrete pad at the foot of a bridge; participants do not run on paved roads. The camp has been owned and operated by Girl Scouts since 1925.
The event is open to businesses, families, military units, troops, and friend groups. Proceeds support the Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia and their programs for youth development.
Course details include multiple hills and marked trails using pink and yellow surveyor tape, landscaping flags, cones, arrow signs, and mile markers. There are two water tables on course and several restrooms with flushing toilets and sinks in cabin areas. Manual timing is used for race results. Paper maps are included in race packets and a trail map is emailed to registrants before the event.
Awards are given to first, second, and third place male and female finishers across age divisions from 14 and under through 70 and older. Water and fruit are provided to participants after the race, and s'mores are available for participants, spectators, and volunteers. Volunteer roles and sponsorship opportunities are part of the event structure. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
