Event overview
The For Kids' Sake International Superhero 5K is a hybrid run/walk held in September 2026. This is the 13th edition of the event. Participants may run or walk in person at Turley Park, 1010 N. Glenview Drive, Carbondale, IL, or complete the distance remotely and log results online. The in-person 5K uses a certified course and chip timing provided by To The Finish.
Proceeds support children, orphans, students, and families in Bangladesh, The Gambia, and Southern Illinois by providing food, clothing, shelter, healthcare, and education. Fundraising is part of the event structure, with prizes for top fundraisers and for fastest times and best superhero costumes.
Entry, awards and logistics
Standard entry fees listed in the event information are Adult $25 and Kids $15 (17 and under); a virtual entry option is also offered. Registration opens June 24, 2026. Pre-registration by Thursday, September 4 guarantees a t-shirt. Race packet pick-up is available Friday, September 19 at Turley Park or packets can be shipped. Day-of registration is available.
Fundraising incentives include an FKSI Carhartt backpack for participants who raise $350 or more. Race awards for 1st and 2nd place are given in each 5-year age category for in-person participants (age groups from 1-9 through 65-99).
