For Kids' Sake International Superhero 5K
The 13th For Kids' Sake International Superhero 5K is a hybrid 3.1 mile run/walk held in September 2026 in Carbondale, Illinois. Participants may take part in person at Turley Park (1010 N. Glenview Drive, Carbondale, IL) or complete the distance virtually from another location.
Registration fees are stated as Adults $25 and Kids $15 (17 and under). Registration opens June 24, 2026 and closes September 19, 2026; pre-register by Thursday, September 4 to guarantee a t-shirt. Race packet pick-up is available Friday, September 19, 5:00 to 6:00 PM at Turley Park, or packets can be shipped.
Proceeds support programs that provide food, clothing, shelter, healthcare, and education for children, orphans, students, and families in Bangladesh, The Gambia, and Southern Illinois. Fundraising incentives include a Carhartt backpack for participants who raise $350 or more.
Awards and recognitions are offered. Prizes are given for most money raised, fastest times, best superhero costumes, and other categories. In-person race awards are presented for 1st and 2nd place in five-year age groups from 1-9 through 65-99. The certified 3.1 mile course used for the in-person event includes chip timing provided by a timing company. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
