17th Annual Indy 5K & Color Us Kids Run
The event takes place on May 19, 2026 at The Independence School, 1300 Paper Mill Road, Newark, DE 19711. It includes a community 5-kilometer road and campus race plus a short kids fun run with color powder.

Registration opens January 9, 2026 and closes May 19, 2026. Standard registration fees are $35 for adults and $25 for youth 17 and under; the form adjusts the price after the participant birthday is entered. Participants who intend to join both events are asked to register and pay for the Indy 5K only in order to receive a timing chip bib.
Course and activity notes: the 5K route runs on campus and uses mixed surfaces and terrain. During the kids run participants will be sprayed with natural color powder; sunglasses will be provided and a white or light shirt is recommended. The color powders are described as made from washable dyes and U.S. FDA approved.
Proceeds support the First Responders Community Partnership, a program offering tuition discounts to children of first responders. The event also features demonstrations from first responder agencies and on-site food trucks. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
