The INDY 5K presented by BlueCross BlueShield of Alabama
The event is a chip-timed 5K held on the road course at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, AL. The course is USATF certified (AL19010JE). Race entry for the 5K includes a finisher medal, an INDY 5K race T-shirt, one onsite parking pass, Friday general admission to the Children’s of Alabama Indy Grand Prix, a swag bag with sponsor items, and one entry to the post-race party. The first 500 registrants will receive a shirt; shirt sizes are not guaranteed.
A non-running "Sleep In" registration tier is offered that provides a T-shirt, Friday general admission, one onsite parking pass, swag, and post-race party access but does not provide access to the racetrack. The published 5K registration fee is $30 and the Sleep In fee is $25. Online registration opens on November 10, 2026 and closes January 1, 2027; transfers are permitted online until March 27, 2027. Entry fees are non-refundable; if the event is canceled under extreme circumstances, entry fees will be used as a donation to Children’s of Alabama.
Packet pickup is available off-site at a nearby hotel prior to the event and on-site in Lot E on event day. All 5K participants must sign a waiver at packet pickup to receive a wristband that allows access to the track; participants over age 21 must show a state-issued ID to receive an additional wristband for age 21+ beverages. Pets are not allowed at Barber Motorsports Park. Water stations are located at the start, the halfway point, and the finish. Awards are given to top overall male and female and to top three in five-year age groups. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
