Cpl. Christopher G. Scherer Memorial "I Did the Grid" 5K Run/Walk
The Cpl. Christopher G. Scherer Memorial "I Did the Grid" Run/Walk takes place on May 23, 2026 in East Northport, New York. The event originates at Pulaski Elementary School and runs through the Gridz of East Northport. Runners will carry bibs that include the names of four service members.
The event is held in memory of Marine Christopher G. Scherer and aims to support veterans, service members, and military families. The organizer notes a new logo and a new course distance while maintaining the event focus on honoring the fallen.
Multiple event formats are offered on the same date:
- 3.1 Miles - Competitive 5k (12 minute miles or less)
- 3.1 Miles - Recreational 5k
- 3.1 Miles - Virtual 5k (May 1 cutoff for mailed shirts and bibs)
- 1 Mile - Fun run under 12 years old (t-shirt not included)
- 1 Mile - Fun run 12 and over (t-shirt not included)
Registration opens March 17, 2026. Registration deadlines differ by event; some 5k entries have an early close and the virtual option and fun runs have later closing dates. Published registration fees include $30 for certain 5k options and $40 for the virtual 5k, with separate fees for the one mile fun runs and optional race t-shirts.
