Cpl. Christopher G. Scherer Memorial Run/Walk
The I Did the Grid event is a community memorial run and walk held in East Northport, New York. The course begins at Pulaski Elementary School and winds through the residential streets known as the Gridz. This event serves as a tribute to Marine Christopher G. Scherer and aims to honor fallen service members while supporting veterans and current military personnel.
Participants in the footbaces carry the names of four fallen service members on their race bibs. The event offers multiple participation options to accommodate different ages and fitness levels:
- 3.1 Miles (5K) Competitive Run (12-minute miles or less)
- 3.1 Miles (5K) Recreational Run/Walk
- 3.1 Miles (5K) Virtual Option
- 1 Mile Fun Run for various age groups
The event takes place on the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend. For those choosing the virtual participation option, t-shirts and bibs are mailed to participants who register by the beginning of May, while those registering later can collect their materials at a designated packet pickup.
