Event Overview
The Hyannis 1 Triathlon is a multi-sport event held at Craigville Beach in the Town of Barnstable, Massachusetts. This long-standing Cape Cod tradition is a USA Triathlon sanctioned event and serves as a 2026 State Championships Ranking Point Event. The competition features various disciplines including triathlon, duathlon, aquabike, and aquathlon, with categories available for individual age groupers, elite athletes, relay teams, and first-time participants.
Distances and Courses
Participants can choose from several race formats and distances:
- Sprint Triathlon: 1/4 mile swim, 10.2 mile bike, and 3.6 mile run.
- Olympic Triathlon: 0.9 mile swim (two loops), 20 mile bike (two loops), and 6.2 mile run.
- Duathlon: 1.4 mile run, 10.2 mile bike, and 3.6 mile run.
- Aquabike: Swim and bike only, available in both Sprint and Olympic distances.
- Aquathlon: 0.9 mile swim and 6.2 mile run.
The swim takes place in the Nantucket Sound along the shore of Craigville Beach, where water temperatures typically range from the high 60s to low 70s. The bike course consists of rolling hills through the villages of Centerville, Osterville, and Wianno. The run course features a series of mild rolling hills and ends with a gentle downhill grade toward the finish line.
Race Logistics
The transition area is located at Craigville Beach, with parking available in adjacent lots. Aid stations providing water and fluid replacement drinks are positioned along the run courses. The event includes a lobster pot challenge for triathlon clubs and college teams with six or more members. Participants are required to have a USA Triathlon membership or purchase a one-day license.
