About the race
The Hurricane Hundred K is a trail running event on Meeks Mountain Trails in Hurricane, West Virginia. The event is organized by the City of Hurricane, the Dumont Tri County YMCA, and local sponsors and offers both a solo 100K and a 100K relay. Distances - *100K solo: six 10.3-mile single-track loops (about 62 miles)* - *100K relay: three person teams, each completing laps to total the 100K* The course is 100% single-track mountain running. The race command center, crew pit, and team hangout are located at the shelter in the back of the bowl.
Solo runners see their crew between each of the six laps. Pacers are permitted for solo runners on the last two loops. There is a firm cutoff for the start of the final loop for participant safety. Prize and awards information is specified for solo and relay entries.
The solo prize purse totals $10,000 with $2,500 for first place male and female, $1,500 for second place male and female, and $1,000 for third place male and female. Relay categories receive hand crafted awards for top teams. All registered runners receive a hoodie, a finisher award, and a tote with sponsor items. All solo 100K finishers receive a Hurricane 100K belt buckle.
The event is Trail Sisters approved and provides female specific swag, equal podium spots and prize money, feminine products at aid stations, and equal space at the starting line. Registration is limited to 150 runners. Relay registration is per individual with team rules requiring the single race chip to cross the finish line six times and handoffs to occur at the start/finish area.
