Event details
The Howth Winter race is organised by the Irish Mountain Running Association in County Dublin. The main course distance is 7.35 km and there is a short course of 4.85 km. The route has a total climb of 222 m and is rated difficulty 6 (Moderate Terrain, 200 m - 500 m ascent, 6 km - 10 km). The route is fully marked and GPS devices are allowed. The event is part of the Winter League Leinster and includes a separate junior route.
Logistics and race procedure
Registration takes place at the Summit Car Park. Runners must sign in, collect their race number, and have timing chips registered. First-time competitors will be issued a timing chip on their race number; replacement numbers are charged at €5. There will be a mass start and marshals at route junctions and at the point where the junior route splits from the main route. U10 runners must be accompanied on the course by a parent or guardian. Headphones are not allowed during the race for safety reasons. Prizegiving will be at the Summit Inn.
Public transport access includes the H3/6 bus terminus close to the start and a nearby Dart station; car parking is available at the Summit (about 70 spaces) with an overflow lot approximately 200 m away. Illegal parking in the area is forbidden.
Mandatory kit
Mandatory kit for the event is Level B - Standard:
- Waterproof jacket
- Hat or buff
- Gloves
- Whistle
- Charged mobile phone with emergency number stored
- Foil blanket, bivvy bag or equivalent
