2027 Hot Cocoa Races
The 12th Annual Hot Cocoa Races take place on February 27, 2027 at Olander Park in Sylvania, Ohio. The event is presented by Sylvania Prevention Alliance in partnership with Olander Park and offers multiple timed distances.
Distances offered:
- 10K (6.2 miles)
- 5K (3.1 miles)
- 1 mile
The 1 mile follows an approximately one mile loop around Olander Lake. It is a timed run or walk with no awards; participants receive a race shirt and access to the race’s signature hot cocoa mugs at the finish. The 1 mile event is open to ages 8 and older.
The 5K starts at the Nederhouser Building inside Olander Park, crosses Sylvania Avenue into the Farmbrook neighborhood, continues on the University Parks Trail to McCord Road, heads north through the Monarch Meadows neighborhood, and returns to circle the lake and finish inside Olander Park. The 5K is open to ages 10 and older.
The 10K follows the 5K course and extends further on the University Parks Trail to the Holland Sylvania intersection before returning to the 5K route to finish. The 10K is open to ages 15 and older.
Awards for the 5K and 10K include overall male and female, and top three in each age group by gender. Age groups are 14 and under (only in the 5K), 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60 and older.
Registration opens June 1, 2026 and closes February 8, 2027. Registration fees listed are $50 for the 10K, $40 for the 5K, and $20 for the 1 mile. Packet pick up is scheduled Wednesday February 24 from 4:00 to 6:30 pm at Dave's Running Shop in Sylvania and Friday February 26 from 4:00 to 6:30 pm at the Nederhouser in Olander Park. Limited race day packet pick up is available for participants who live more than 30 minutes away.
