Hmong Heritage Run 5K
The Hmong Heritage Run 5K is a community running event at Hart Square Village in Vale, NC that includes a 5K and a 1 Mile family run. It is open to participants of any age and allows walking, jogging, or running.
Participants follow a route designed to tell the story of the Hmong people, tracing origins in Western China, migration to Southeast Asia, and later global dispersal, while moving through the scenery of Hart Square Village.
Proceeds and donations designated for HHR 5K support Hmong cultural preservation and education, sustain programs for the Hmong community in the state, and help establish a location to store, showcase, and preserve cultural items and family histories, including traditional handcrafts, arts, and instruments.
The event was established in April 2023 as a collaboration between the Hmong community in North Carolina and Arts Culture Catawba, a DBA of the United Arts Council of Catawba County. The event provides a public space to share Hmong culture, promote health and well being, introduce the broader public to Hmong heritage, and strengthen connections between generations and the wider community.
