Hmong Heritage Run 5K
The Hmong Heritage Run 5K is an event held at Hart Square Village in Vale, North Carolina. It offers a community running program with two distances: a 5K and a 1 Mile Family Fun Run. Participants may walk, run, or jog along a planned route.
The course is designed to tell the story of the Hmong people, tracing origins in Western China, migration to Southeast Asia, and subsequent global dispersal, while passing through the scenery of Hart Square Village. Proceeds and donations from the event support Hmong cultural preservation and education, sustain programs for the Hmong community in the state, and help establish a location to store and display traditional handcrafts, arts, instruments, and family histories.
The event was established in April 2023 as a collaboration between the Hmong community in North Carolina and Arts Culture Catawba, a DBA of the United Arts Council of Catawba County. Registration for each listed distance carries a fee of $20.00. The event creates space to share Hmong culture and to introduce the broader public to aspects of Hmong heritage.
