Hitchin Half Marathon and companion races
The event comprises a measured half marathon plus shorter races held annually in early June. All races start and finish at Hitchin Priory on Tilehouse Street and use local country roads through Charlton, Preston village and the Offley Holes Hill area.
The half marathon is an out and back, undulating and hilly course with some flat sections, and begins on grass for about 200 yards before continuing on country roads. The route is fully marshalled, signposted with mile markers and includes five water stations. A three hour cut off applies for the half marathon.
Race services include electronic timing with online live results, a race bib with an integrated timing chip, baggage drop, on course and finish drink stations, medical provision, toilets at race HQ, a race village with food, drink and merchandise stalls, start and finish music, and downloadable finisher certificates. A race medal is awarded and an awards ceremony is held. An optional event T shirt is available for £10. A kid's fun run is offered.
Rules note that headphones are prohibited because roads are not closed to traffic. Gun times determine overall race positions and chip timing is not used for race placings. Prizes are awarded to overall podium finishers and age group winners, with UK Athletics age group rules applied.
