Event Overview

The Hillsborough YMCA Hop 5K is a community fitness event held in Hillsborough, New Jersey. Now a spring tradition for over 25 years, the event offers a course that is open to both competitive runners and walkers. Participants can choose between two primary event formats:

  • 5K
  • Virtual 5K

The 5K route is a USATF Certified Grand Prix course. It is described as a net down-hill course that begins at the Hillsborough YMCA on East Mountain Road. Participants run through flat residential neighborhoods and finish the race at the Hillsborough Municipal Building on South Branch Road. Registered participants receive a commemorative shirt and a race bib.

For those unable to attend in person, the Virtual 5K allows participants to complete the distance at a location of their choice and submit their results online. Virtual participants also receive a commemorative shirt and bib.

The event features several award categories, including the top three finishers in male, female, and nonbinary divisions. Age group awards are provided for participants starting from age 8 and under up to ages 90 and over. There is also a specific competition for parent and child teams, where combined finishing times are used to determine winners in various categories. Additionally, the Hoppy Award is presented to the local school with the highest number of participants.

Proceeds from the event support the YMCA's ability to provide financial assistance for community programs and services. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
