Highwood 5K Family Run, Walk & Stroll
The Highwood 5K is a community run, walk and stroll held in downtown Highwood as part of the Celebrate Highwood festival. The event includes a conventional 5K distance and a one mile walk option intended for families, strollers and shorter-distance participants. The course starts and finishes at the corner of Sheridan Road and Clay Avenue, follows the lake front trail and passes through historic Fort Sheridan.
The event uses a superhero theme and is pet friendly. Proceeds from the event benefit the Oak Terrace Parent Teacher Organization, a nonprofit that supports a Title 1 elementary school serving students and staff in the Highwood area. The event recognizes age group finishers with awards for first through third place in two age divisions, 16 and under and 17 and over.
Pre-race packet pick up and race day packet pick up locations are organized by the event. Sponsors and volunteers support course safety, water stations and event operations. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
