Highland Fling Ultramarathon
The Highland Fling Ultramarathon is a point-to-point trail race covering the southern 53 miles (85 km) of the West Highland Way. The route transitions from Milngavie, near Glasgow, to the village of Tyndrum, passing through the Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park. The course consists of approximately 90% trail and 10% road, featuring a total ascent of 2300m and a descent of 2100m. The path is way-marked and does not require manual navigation.
Participants have access to several event services including luggage transport from the start to the finish line, live chip timing, and a drop bag system with three designated locations along the course. At the finish in Tyndrum, the event provides heated marquees, showers, post-race massages, and food. An early start option is available for runners who anticipate needing more time to complete the distance.
Entry is open to women, men, and non-binary runners aged 20 or older. This event also hosts the Scottish Ultra Trail Championships for eligible members of Scottish Athletics.
Specific entry criteria apply: participants must have completed an ultramarathon, a road marathon in under five hours, or any trail marathon after January 1st, 2024. Mandatory safety equipment includes an emergency foil blanket, waterproof clothing with taped seams, a head torch, and a mobile phone.
