Highland Fling 53 mile Ultra Trail Marathon

The Highland Fling is a point-to-point trail ultramarathon held on 29 August 2026 along the southern 53 miles (85 km) of the West Highland Way, running through Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park from Milngavie to Tyndrum. The route is waymarked and mainly off-road, with approximately 90% trail and 10% road, and involves about 2300 m of ascent and 2100 m of descent.

The event provides live chip timing, luggage transport from the start to the finish, a three-drop-bag system for food, free post-race showers and massage, free home-made food and drinks at the finish, heated marquees, official event photos, and an afterparty in a marquee (bring-your-own and donation bar). Event buses to and from the start/finish are available for an extra cost.

Entry requires completion of a qualifying race after 1 January 2024: an ultramarathon (any finish time), a trail marathon (any finish time), or a road marathon with a sub-5 hour finish unless completed as part of an Ironman. The deadline to achieve a qualifying result is 1 June 2026. Minimum age on race day is 20. The entry fee is listed as £125 and entries close on 26 July 2026; standard refund and deferral policies apply.

Race rules require no external support or pacers, and compulsory kit includes an emergency foil blanket, a waterproof jacket and waterproof trousers with taped seams, a headtorch, and a charged mobile phone. Running poles are permitted from 7.5 miles. The use of NSAIDs as race-day painkillers is forbidden and littering is not allowed.

The event uses an active gender entry system with women, men, and nonbinary categories, and lists measures for accessibility and inclusion such as an early start option, anonymity on results, disabled parking, and support for breast/chestfeeding participants.
