High Country 5K
The High Country 5K is a road race held in Bluff Park, located in Hoover, Alabama. This event is hosted by Shades Crest Baptist Church and represents a long-standing tradition in the local community. The race features two distinct categories:
- High Country 5K Race
- Elementary Challenge 5K for K-5th grade
Participants in the 5K move through a course that includes mile markers and a water station at the midpoint. The event utilizes chip timing and organizes the start into corrals based on estimated finish times. For safety and navigation, a police escort is provided during the run.
Registration includes several amenities for participants. Runners receive a t-shirt, although those who register after March 31 may receive their shirts in the two weeks following the race. After completing the course, a medal ceremony is held, accompanied by a pancake breakfast available to participants.
Race packets are available for collection at the Family Life Center on Rockland Drive the day before the event or on the morning of the race. The Elementary School Challenge follows the same 5K route but begins with a delayed start compared to the main field. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
