Trail Running in Herron Park
The Herron Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K Trail Run is an annual event held in Kalispell, Montana. The races take place within the trail system of Herron Park, located off Foys Lake Road. This event marks the 14th year of the competition, which includes several distance options for trail runners:
- Half Marathon (13.1 Miles)
- 10K Trail Run (6.2 Miles)
- 5K Trail Run (3.1 Miles)
The event serves as the primary annual fundraiser for Foy's to Blacktail Trails. Funds generated through registration fees and donations are utilized for the maintenance and expansion of the 40-plus mile trail system. The race is also featured as part of the Flathead Race Series, a collection of local events that includes the Big Mountain Run, the Whitefish Trail Blazer races, and the Le Grizz races.
Parking at the venue is limited, and participants are encouraged to share rides to the park. Staff are present on-site to assist with parking efficiency. Brief informational meetings are held ten minutes before the beginning of each race distance. Participants who complete various races within the Flathead Race Series are tracked via a season-long leaderboard managed by Competitive Timing.
