Helping Hands Hero 5K Run/Walk
The Helping Hands Hero 5K Run/Walk is a fundraising event for the Cleveland Clinic Children's Hospital for Rehabilitation Helping Hands Initiative. The proceeds help provide equipment not covered by insurance, such as car seats, ventilator electrical lines, helmets, and adaptive equipment.
The in-person events take place at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo on August 22, 2026. There is also a virtual participation option. The race day includes packet pick-up and registration starting at 7:30 a.m.
The event features several activities:
- Hero 50 Yard Dash for Kids (ages 2-10, 2-18 with assistive devices)
- 5K Run/Walk
- 1 Mile Walk
- Spectator entry
Registration and Fees Race admission includes access to the zoo for the entire day.
- Hero 50-yard Dash: $15
- 5K Run/Walk: $25 before April 1, $30 before June 1, $40 through race day
- 1 Mile Walk: $20
- Family (2 adults + 2 children): $75
- Spectator: $10
- Virtual Hero Dash: $12
- Virtual 5k Run/Walk: $25 Children under age 2 are free. A dri-fit race tech shirt is available for purchase.
Awards (5K only) Awards are given to the top 3 male and female overall finishers, as well as the top three in several age categories. There are also awards for the top hospital employee and for best costume (one child and one adult).
There is a "Sponsor A Hero" program where donations allow patients and students from the hospital's Lerner school to participate in the Kids Fun Dash or 1 Mile Walk with a caregiver. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
