Helping Hands Hero 5K Run/Walk
The Helping Hands Hero 5K Run/Walk is a community sports event held at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. The event raises funds for the Cleveland Clinic Children's Hospital for Rehabilitation Helping Hands Initiative. These funds are used to provide medical equipment not covered by insurance, such as adaptive equipment, helmets, and specialized car seats.
The event features several participation options for different ages and interests:
- 5K Run/Walk
- 1 Mile Walk
- Hero 50 Yard Dash for Kids (for ages 2-10, or 2-18 for those using assistive devices)
- Virtual 5K Run/Walk
- Virtual Hero Dash
Participants in the in-person events receive admission to the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo for the entire day. A technical race shirt is available for purchase separately. The 5K event includes an awards ceremony for the top three male and female finishers overall, as well as the top three finishers in various age categories ranging from 15 and under to 50 and over. Recognition is also given for the best costume in both child and adult categories.
The 50-yard dash is specifically designed for children, and those using assistive devices are welcome to participate in the dash or roll. All participants in the kids' dash must be accompanied by an adult. For those unable to attend in person, virtual options are available to support the initiative from any location.
