Heavens Gate Marathon and Half Marathon, May 1 to 2, 2026
This event in Riggins, Idaho features multiple trail races in the Seven Devils area, using terrain around Cannonball Mountain and nearby canyons. Distances offered include:
- 53K ultra, 33 miles, around 13,000 feet of climbing
- 26K loop, 16.5 miles, about 6,000 feet of climbing
- 2–3K Vertical uphill race, roughly 1–2 miles with about 2,500 feet of climbing
The 53K expands on the Cannonball Mountain footprint and includes several major climbs of approximately 5,000, 3,500 and 2,000 feet, plus rolling canyon sections. The course description notes a mandatory kit of gear and nutrition, two manned aid stations and additional water stations along the route.
The 26K follows a classic loop up Blue Gulch, over Cannonball Mountain, down toward McRea Cabin and back through the canyon, with one manned aid station and several water stations.
The Friday Vertical is an uphill only race from the Hatchery and Trailhead to Challenger Peak. It is free for entrants of the 53K and 26K; a small fee for other entrants may be applied depending on permit approvals.
