Heartland - Cassoday, KS (October 9–11, 2026)
Heartland offers multiple ultramarathon and road race distances on a predominantly backcountry gravel and dirt road course near Cassoday, Kansas. Distances include an out-and-back 100-mile route with less than one mile of paved surface and rolling hills totaling about 6,000 feet of climb. Much of the course passes through open range and the Flint Hills tallgrass prairie.
Runners may choose from the following distances:
- 125 Miler
- 100 Miler
- 100K
- Teter Rock 100K
- 50 Miler
- Marathon
- 1/2 Marathon
Course formats vary by distance: the 125-mile option adds a 30-mile loop to the original 100 course and is described as a graduate-level route with minimal markings, maps provided, and a roving aid station; the 100K and 50-mile are out-and-back segments of the 100 course; the marathon is point-to-point with a short loop in Cassoday; the half marathon is an out-and-back to Teter Rock. Aid station support differs by distance: the 100-mile uses 22 aid stations, the 100K 14, the 50-mile 12, and the marathon 6; the 125-mile adds a roving aid station. Crew access and drop-bag availability are provided at multiple locations depending on distance.
Time limits apply by distance (for example, 125 miles 38 hours; 100-mile and 100K 30 hours with a 50-mile turnaround cutoff). Pacers are allowed from Matfield Green to the finish under specified rules. Basic race rules include wearing race numbers, carrying a hydration device, no littering, and running facing traffic.
