Heartland - Cassoday, KS
Heartland offers multiple distances on predominantly backcountry gravel and dirt roads in and around Cassoday, Kansas. The event includes these options:
- 125 miles
- 100 miles
- 100K
- Teter Rock 100K
- 50 miles
- Marathon
- Half marathon
Most courses run as out-and-back routes on rural roads; the Cassoday marathon is point-to-point with a short loop in town. The 125-mile route follows the original Heartland 100 course with an additional roughly 30-mile loop to Eureka and has minimal course marking on that loop, requiring runners to use provided maps. The 100-mile course is mostly gravel with under one mile of paved road, features rolling terrain, and records about 6,000 feet of climb.
Aid and support are provided at multiple stations: 22 manned aid stations for the 100-mile, with additional mobile coverage for the 125-mile race; fewer aid stations are used for the shorter distances. Crew access and drop bag availability vary by distance. Pacers are permitted from a specified mid-race aid station to the finish, with one pacer at a time. Crews have restricted access and must use designated crew roads and parking areas.
Participants should note the remoteness of sections of the course, variable October weather, limited shelter on the route, and the need to carry basic hydration and navigation supplies. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
