Event Overview
Head for the Hills! is an annual event supporting the Moreland Hills Parks Commission. Registration fees and donations directly benefit this non-profit organization, providing its primary source of funds for park preservation and improvements. The event takes place at the Forest Ridge Preserve and Lang Pavilion in Moreland Hills, Ohio.
Event Details
The event features two main activities:
- A 5K Run chip-timed with MyLaps BibTag.
- A 1.5 Mile Hike through Forest Ridge Preserve, available as a self-guided or naturalist-guided option.
Both the run and hike are priced at $25, with a reduced fee of $15 for children ages 6-15. Children aged 5 and under can participate for free, though they do not receive the participant giveaway. Registration includes a commemorative Head for the Hills! canvas tote bag, post-race snacks and refreshments, and chances for additional giveaways.
The Courses
The 5K Run is an out-and-back course along Chagrin River Road, described as recently resurfaced. The route features gently rolling hills and passes by lovely homes, with potential for early fall colors.
The 1.5 Mile Hike traverses hills, ravines, and streams on the wooded, diverse trails within Forest Ridge Preserve.
Activities and Amenities
In addition to the run and hike, the event includes free kids' activities and crafts. Coffee and breakfast are available from a mobile food and coffee truck. NovaCare Rehabilitation provides on-site pre-event warm-ups, injury prevention taping, and post-event recovery treatments like massage and stretching.
Awards are given for the 5K Run only. Top overall male and female winners receive Fleet Feet gift cards, with awards for the top three male and female finishers in standard age groups.
Early packet pickup is available the day before at a Fleet Feet location in Pepper Pike, Ohio. Dogs are not permitted at the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
