Event Overview

The Head for the Hills! event takes place in Moreland Hills, Ohio, on October 3, 2026. It features a 5K run and a 1.5-mile hike. The event is held at the Forest Ridge Preserve and the Lang Pavilion in the Chagrin River valley.

Activities and Courses

Participants can choose from two main activities:

  • 5K Run: A chip-timed run along Chagrin River Road. The course is described as scenic, with gently rolling hills and early fall colors. It is an out-and-back route on a recently resurfaced road.
  • 1.5-Mile Hike: A hike through the trails of the 142-acre Forest Ridge Preserve, traversing hills, ravines, and streams. Participants can choose a self-guided hike or join a naturalist-guided group to learn about the local ecosystem.

Event Details

Registration fees and donations benefit the non-profit Moreland Hills Parks Commission, which uses the funds for park preservation and improvements. All registered participants receive a custom Head for the Hills canvas tote bag. Post-event snacks and refreshments are provided, and a mobile food and coffee truck will be on site. Free kids' activities and crafts are available.

For the 5K run, there are overall and age group awards. NovaCare Rehabilitation provides on-site pre-event warm-ups, taping, and post-event recovery treatments.
