HDR Miles Mania
HDR Miles Mania is a community running event held on the track at Joe Walker Middle School in Quartz Hill, California. Organized by the West Antelope Valley Education Foundation (WAVE) and the High Desert Runners, this event takes place as part of the Empowering Youth Festival. Participation in the races is free of charge, and while race shirts are not provided, runners can receive participation ribbons and place ribbons for those finishing in the top three of their age group.
The event features a series of track races organized by age and grade level. The schedule includes a variety of distances tailored to different age groups:
- 1 Mile for Masters and Seniors (ages 40+), Open categories (ages 18-39), and students in 6th through 12th grade.
- 800 meters for students in 3rd through 5th grade.
- 400 meters for students in 2nd grade and under.
The races occur alongside the Empowering Youth Festival, which hosts various family oriented activities and community vendors. Previous festival highlights have included robotics demonstrations, bicycle repairs, karate performances, and dance shows. The event area also typically features local food trucks and community service vehicles, such as ambulances and utility trucks, for attendees to view.
