Course, safety and logistics

The course is a remote moorland traverse of 51 km (31.7 miles) with 1340 m (4396 ft) of climb, running around Haworth, Todmorden and Hebden Bridge. Terrain is mostly trails and gritstone moors with some short road sections and exposed areas where winter conditions are possible. GPS is not allowed for navigation. Full Fell Runners Association mandatory kit is required plus a foil blanket or bivvy bag, minimum 0.5 litre water carrying capacity, and an additional long-sleeved thermal layer not worn at the race start. Trackers from Open Tracking are issued to competitors. There are six staffed feed stations offering food and hot drinks; menus in recent years have included hot dogs, chip butties, Tom Yum soup, fresh donuts and other items. Detailed waterproof race maps are available for a small charge and free guided reccy runs are organised in the winter. Maximum time allowed is approximately 11 hours with strict checkpoint cut-offs. Refunds are not offered; substitutions and deferrals are subject to published conditions. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
