Haworth Hobble : race summary and key details
The Haworth Hobble is a long off-road fell race starting and finishing at Haworth Primary School, Rawdon Road, Haworth, BD22 8DW (grid ref SE 03143 37265). The route traverses gritstone moors around Haworth, Todmorden and Hebden Bridge and includes exposed remote moorland sections where competitors must be self-sufficient in adverse conditions.
Distance and ascent:
- 51 km / 31.7 miles with about 1615 metres / 5300 feet of climb
- Bad weather option: 21 miles
The event is classified BL and GPS devices are not permitted for navigation. Full Fell Runners Association mandatory kit is required plus a foil blanket or bivvy bag, minimum 0.5 litre water carrying capacity and an extra long sleeved thermal base layer not worn at the race start. Competitors should expect to carry more than the minimum given the time of year and potential wintry conditions. Minimum age on race day is 18.
There are six feed stations on the route; stations 3, 4 and 5 offer additional hot and savoury options alongside drinks and snacks. Early starts are available on the day without advance registration. Organised reconnaissance runs take place in the weeks before the race as point to point runs, with multiple pace groups and optional taxi arrangements for return travel.
The event is volunteer run and donates surplus funds to local charities and club junior development. Fifteen free places are offered to active UK Search and Rescue team members as a thank you. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
