About the race
The Hatley Castle 8K is a single-distance road and trail race held on Sunday, February 7, 2027, on the grounds of Royal Roads University at Hatley Castle, 2005 Sooke Rd. The route combines asphalt and gravel surfaces, sweeping lawns and heavily forested trails across the university property.
The course is described as having an ultra-fast start and finish with a hilly middle section; a notable climb begins just after the 3K mark. Runners encounter a mix of ups and downs and multiple viewpoints that include Esquimalt Lagoon in the foreground and the Olympic Mountains and downtown Victoria in the distance. Much of the route runs under trees and changes direction frequently, which provides shelter from wind and rain.
Parking is available near the lagoon in two large lots, and there is additional parking in a large gravel lot near the highway and in other nearby locations. Early registration runs from October 9, 2026 to January 7, 2027. Entry fees are listed as $40 for early registration and $50 for late registration. Team entries are accepted with a minimum of five team members. Packet pick-up is offered online and in person the day before and on the race day at Frontrunners Westshore and the Royal Roads University Recreation Center.
