Hatley Castle 8K at Royal Roads University
The Hatley Castle 8K is organized by Frontrunners Athletic Club and takes place on the grounds of Hatley Castle at Royal Roads University in Colwood. The race date is Sunday, February 8, 2026. Entry is available online or in person at Frontrunners Westshore, with early registration open from November 12, 2025 to January 7, 2026. Early entry fee is $40 and late entry is $50. Team entries require a minimum of five members.
The course is described as a character route with an ultra fast start and finish and a hilly middle, notably a steep climb after the 3 km mark. Surfaces include a mix of asphalt and gravel, with rolling terrain and wooded trails across the campus. The route offers recurring views of Esquimalt Lagoon, the Olympic Mountains, and downtown Victoria while running along lawns and forested trails on the university property.
Most of the course runs through trees and changes direction often, which reduces prolonged exposure to wind and rain. Parking is available in large lots by the lagoon, in a gravel lot near the highway, and in other locations around the site. Package pick-up is scheduled for Saturday at Frontrunners Westshore and on race day at the Royal Roads University Recreation Center.
